Rodrigues Gonçalves (b. 2000, Madeira, Portugal) is an artist working in sculpture, installation, and material-based practice. Through casting, carving, preservation, and traditional fabrication techniques, his work examines how images, objects, and symbols shape identity and the perception of self.

Raised during the symbolic afterlives of the António Salazar dictatorship and around his family’s three-generation souvenir shop in Madeira, Gonçalves developed an early awareness of how visual culture influences belief, desire, and social identity. His work draws on these experiences, using humour, material craft, and symbolic transformation to explore systems of aspiration, power, and belonging.

Goncalves earned an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art, London. He is the recipient of awards including the Glass Prize Artist Award from Warm Glass, United Kingdom (2021) and Public Choice UK New Artist of the Year Award from Saatchi Gallery, London (2022). His work has been exhibited at institutions including Tate Modern and Camden Arts Centre, London, and The UK National Glass Centre, Sunderland.
